The Smith & Wesson 69 is the result of technology and design choices taken from the X-frame revolvers (460 & 500 S&W chamberings) and scaled down to a reasonably sized firearm. These updates allow the .44 Magnum, normally built on the large N-frame, to be built instead on the normally .357-only L-frame. A 5-round cylinder keeps the firearm width down while still providing a reasonable number of rounds. A 2-piece barrel system is used here, providing tension at both ends of the barrel, increasing precision and accuracy potential. A ball-detent lock-up has been added to the cylinder crane to increase the strength of the lock-up improving safety and increasing the firearm’s lifespan. This model is equipped with a 2.75″ barrel, making this a relatively small package that excels as a field gun.
